Portraits of a Liar
BY SAMIR ELMASRI
Portrait of a liar, transparent, you could see right
Empty substance, dark and gloomy.
Often trouble, muddy, and droumy.
Truth to me was irrelevant, elusive, it never knew
Having a veil constantly over my eyes,
Looking for an abundance of lies.
Fallacious reasoning offered a place for me to
A false refuge and a place to hide,
Right behind my ego, selfishness, deceit, and
Portrait of a liar, an ignorant mastermind.
Challenges overcoming being sincere,
Afraid of judgment and perception, controlled by
Superficial, masking joy with the tears,
Portrait of a liar, truth- I cannot speak, see, nor
Systematic liar, programmed-humanoid.
Absence of truth, without form and void.
Knee deep in lies, looking over my shoulder and
But why fight something you cannot avoid?
One small taste of truth left me overjoyed.
Is this really the way, the way for me?
How can I undo the hurt? I beg, I plea.
You shall know the truth and it shall set you free,
My chains are broken, I’ve found the key.
Portrait of a liar, I’ve been set free.
